I'm Ingo Steinke, a self-employed, CSS- and front-end focused web developer with over 25 years of professional experience. When developing elegant and easy-to-use websites, I pay attention to accessibility, loading speed and maintainability.
Since 2024, I am a certified Shopware developer.

I'm pragmatic, communicative and enjoy working closely with web designers.

Accessibility and Sustainable Digitalisation

Digitalisation primarily stands for technological progress. The economic benefits of sustainable innovation have often been overlooked. I like to support ethical and ecological projects, for example the transition in the transport sector, renewable energies, and environmentally-friendly fashion. Thanks to my experience, we can elegantly comply with legal requirements such as the General Data Protection Regulation or the European Accessibility Act.


Professional Background

I co-founded a start-up in 2000 whose first products were interactive websites and browser games. Later, our core business transitioned to search engine optimization and our own CMS and e-commerce software.

While employed as an e-commerce engineer at Xsite in Düsseldorf from 2010 to 2014, I developed online shops for Shop-Apotheke.com, Ars mundi, and other customers. As a technical consultant at Sevenval Technologies (later Avenga Germany) in Cologne and Berlin, I optimized the loading time and mobile phone compatibility of apps and websites for Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and online shops for Otto Group and created front-end applications for wao.io and other customers.

I'm a freelance web developer since 2020, working for agencies and individual customers.

Kleiderordnung.Berlin is sustainable stylist Tina Steinke's portfolio website. The multilingual, responsive CMS theme is search engine optimised and environmentally friendly, with subtle animations and scrolling effects.

"gemeva", an abbreviation of "common sense", is the title of the Swiss consultant and project manager, Tanja Berger's portfolio. I developed a responsive WordPress theme based on Michael Berger's graphic design.

Course Booking Maintenance

I took over maintenance, optimization and further development of a course booking website's WordPress frontend and its import interface in 2023 that I continuously keep maintaining ever since. The challenge: Understanding and continuously extending the legacy code base.

As a freelance senior lead developer on a team of front-end web developers, I developed a scalable modular component deisgn system for relaunching an international corporate customer's multiple websites (STRABAG SE). The launch took place on schedule in several countries in 2022.

Campaign Website

A collaboration between Creatives and Psychologists for Future, the voluntary impact campaign "You can do it" ("Das kannst du tun") supports mental health and ecological action. I advised, optimised the responsive display and added a high-contrast version.
