About Me: Work And Passion
I'm Ingo Steinke, a front-end focused web developer with over 20 years of professional experience. When developing elegant and easy-to-use websites, I pay attention to accessibility, loading speed and maintainability. HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript and PHP are among my favourite technologies. Since 2024, I am a certified Shopware developer.
I'm pragmatic, communicative and enjoy working closely with web designers.

What Still Fascinates Me
Worldwide communication and inspiration: The World Wide Web connects people using robust and decentralized technology. Websites designed to offer everyone access to this network must be attractive, fast, and accessible. This vision shapes my work.
Professional Background
I co-founded a start-up in 2000 whose first products were interactive websites and browser games. Later, our core business transitioned to search engine optimization and our own e-commerce software.
While employed as an e-commerce engineer at Xsite in Düsseldorf from 2010 to 2014, I developed online shops for Shop-Apotheke.com, Ars mundi, and other customers. As a technical consultant at Sevenval Technologies (later Avenga Germany) in Cologne and Berlin, I optimized the loading time and mobile phone compatibility of apps and websites for Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and online shops for Otto Group and created front-end applications for wao.io and other customers.
I'm a freelance web developer since 2020, working for agencies and individual customers. I became a certified Shopware developer in 2024.
Memberships, Events and Talks
From 2019 to 2021, I co-hosted the Cologne Web Performance meetup. Currently, I am a member of Impact Hub Berlin and Fairantwortung. I actively participate in professional discussions and write blog posts about technological topics.

Future Topics and Sustainable Development
Digitalisation primarily stands for technological progress. The economic benefits of sustainable innovation have often been overlooked. I like to support ethical and ecological projects, for example the transition in the transport sector, renewable energies, and environmentally-friendly fashion. Thanks to my experience, we can elegantly comply with legal requirements such as the General Data Protection Regulation or the European Accessibility Act.

Plugin for Shopware
Price transparency increases customers' trust. My plugin "Cost Transparency extends the product details in Shopware 6, adding an interactive graphic that illustrates different shares of the total price.

For the co-creation agency Twisted Connection's website relaunch, we extended the design system and reused the existing WordPress content.

Campaign Website
A collaboration between Creatives and Psychologists for Future, the voluntary impact campaign "You can do it" ("Das kannst du tun") supports mental health and ecological action. I optimised the responsive display and added a high-contrast version.

Design System
As senior lead developer on a team of front-end web developers, I developed a modular system for relaunching an international corporate customer's multiple websites. The Fractal framework served as a technical basis.

I support the ecological shop Food Together by maintaining and enhancing the online shop featuring subscription orders, seasonal bundles, and price transparency information.

WordPress Optimization
I extended the content and improved the loading speed, accessibility, and mobile display of various WordPress websites like the sustainable photographer Malte Reiter's portfolio including gallery pages with a lot of existing images.
WordPress PageSpeed CSS PHP
React Web App
wao.io's graphical platform user interface visualised technical data and allowed webmasters to configure how their websites are optimised. I developed and updated app components as a member of the front-end and support team.
